Top 5 Tuesdays- Top 5 Movie Bands
Evening Basers!
After a day full of auditions and a night full of meetings, I some how managed to make my way back to the desk and post yet another one of our Top 5 Tuesdays, and yes, I may be tootin my own horn but regardless of that props to me yo!
So if you didn’t catch up on our latest news, this seems to be post #101 so its time to celebrate! In light of movies that have come out as of recent we at the 5th Base Headquaters have decided to make this weeks Top 5 musical, not musical in the fact that we are going to list our Top 5 Musicals but musical in the fact that this Top 5 is based around Top 5 Movie Bands. We based this weeks Top 5 around all the fictional movie bands which seem to have come out as of recent such as Infant Sorrow from Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Get Him to the Greek, Sex Bob-omb from Scott Pilgrim, and Johnny Quid’s Outfit from Rocknrolla. So its time for y’all to get down and funky with it and party like its 1999 (get it?) !
5. Dolemite and Bitches- Dolemite
This truly is the most bizarre band to feature on this list. Basically the gist of Dolemite and his band was that Dolemite would kinda tell stories over his music about lions and monkeys and all of that other madness. Sounds entertaining? Maybe. Sounds stimulating? Have a see for yourself….
4. Cheech and Chong- Cheech and Chong Moives
Way back before Chong was known as a stoner he was in a band that played with Jimi Hendrix! Yes that’s right Jimi effn Hendrix!! So I guess it all made sense that it the Cheech and Chong series of movies, stage shows, and other madness they would always have a segmant where they would break out into song, and it was awesome! Check out Cheech and Chongs protest tune about the state of America and their thoughts on ethnic migration
3. Venus in Furs- Velvet Goldmine
So, I don’t know really where to begin in saying not only how awesome this band is but how awesome this movie is, so I will give you all a quick rundown and if you haven’t seen it, be ready to get your pants or panties wet. Johnathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale star in this movie about a 70’s Glam Rock band based on the lives of David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. If that hasn’t hit the spot for you yet then saying that the music for the Band was played by everyone from the likes of Thom Yorke from Radiohead to Jarvis Cocker from Pulp should get you there
2. Spinal Tap – This Is Spinal Tap
Again, this is another one of those bands that you know had to be on the list as it is basically a bench mark in original rock music made for film as well as being the pioneer of the mockumentary film style used immensely in this day and age. It basically features a group of American comedians playing an English Metal outfit going on tour.
1. The Revolution- Purple Rain
If you didn’t get the joke in the introduction then here is a brief explanation: 1999 was a song by Prince which has the lyric party like its 1999, Prince was in a band called the Revolution, the Revolution featured in the film Purple Rain, and the song 1999 was in the movie Purple Rain sung by the somewhat fictional band The Revolution. Still don’t get it ? Fughidabowdit but what really matters is The Revolution come in this weeks Top 5 with position number 1. A fun fact for all you trivia head outs there is that this film spawned soundtrack that has won countless awards including and Oscar making it the only band on this list to get any ‘real’ credibility. And for all you nay-sayers out there who disagree with The Revoltion making it on this list as they are a real band, I dare you to watch the end segment of the movie Purple Rain, (when they are playing the song Purple Rain) and try not get all tingly and weird with butterflies in your stomach.
